Hovercraft news ...
There will be an
informal gathering of hovercrafts on
Saturday,
August 29th 2009 at 10am at the
Bissell Bridge boat launch in Windsor,
CT. Bring your craft. See others up
close. Bring the family. Come down and
watch the action of students driving
these vehicles.
This is a great time to gather
information about building one at your
school.

On June 6, 2009 at the
Great River Park Boat Launch in East
Hartford, CT students from Manchester
High School, Manchester, CT (MHS) and
Parish Hill High School, Chaplin, CT
(PHHS) competed in the first Hovercraft
Rally to be held in the New England
region. Both crafts were built as
a classroom project for the schools'
Principles of Technology course, which
is an applied physics curriculum.
This was the first craft built by
students from MHS, but PHHS students
have been building crafts since 2001 and
racing since 2005. Teachers from
both schools are working with Riverfront
Recapture to create an annual racing
event in Connecticut.
MHS would like to thank the Foundation
for Manchester Public Schools for their
very generous grant that allowed this
project to come to reality.
Additionally, representatives from the
Manchester Power Squadron for donating
their time and expertise to conduct the
Safe Boater's class and patrolling the
river during the event providing
rescue support.
PHHS would like to thank Pete Gardell,
Raoul Dahms, and Craig and Brenda McClea
for all
their help and support.

materials to either school or has
